Our Story
Welcome to Roots Farm Shop
I’m Hannah, owner and operator of Roots Farm Shop, just outside Devizes in Wiltshire. I took over the business in May 2025 with a clear sense of ambition and direction and very quickly learned that running a small food business is far more dynamic (and complex!) than any plan can fully prepare you for.
Since taking ownership, my vision for Roots has evolved. What started as a defined idea has grown into a more realistic, considered strategy, shaped by day-to-day experience, customer behaviour and the realities of running the business. As a passionate food lover and entrepreneur, I’m driven by ideas, energy and a constant desire to improve. My ongoing challenge is balancing that ambition with focus, discipline and building strong foundations before pushing forward.
Roots has been on this site for 18 years, with a well-earned reputation for good-quality, home-produced food and that remains at the heart of everything we do. Many of our products are still made in the same way, with the same great ingredients. From salads, soups and quiches to cakes and traybakes, everything is made properly, tastes delicious and offers real value for money.
We use whole ingredients, no packet mixes here. A single batch of quiches uses 60 whole eggs and 2 litres of double cream. Our cakes use 53 eggs per batch, and we always use high-quality Belgian chocolate in our traybakes. We never scrimp on quality, and most of the ingredients we cook with are available to buy on the shop floor.
Now, we’re building on that reputation by offering ingredients that inspire people to cook confidently at home. As more of us experiment with new cuisines and flavours, we want to encourage both our regular customers and those yet to discover Roots to try something new.
From butchery and grocery to fruit and veg, bakery, cheese, dairy and our own production kitchen, we carefully curate everything we sell. We work with suppliers who care deeply about quality, provenance and flavour, and who share our values around how food should taste.
Our aim isn’t just to sell ingredients, it’s to spark curiosity, build confidence and make great home cooking feel achievable, exciting and rewarding.
